4 > Think Solar!
Take advantage of state and federal solar tax credits and go solar. For more ways to "think solar" visit the New Mexico Solar Energy Association. Or, to learn about New Mexico's clean energy initiatives, visit cleanenergynm.org
Solar technology includes:
- Photovoltaics ("Solar Cells") - for obtaining electricity. Solar cells convert sunlight into useable energy.
- Passive solar home design - to heat or cool your home, and to generate hot water. This does not require fans or pumps to move sun-warmed air and water throughout your house.
- Active solar thermal heating - to heat or cool your home, and to generate hot water. This does use fans and pumps to move sun-warmed air and water throughout your house. This system can provide 40-80% of the hot water heating needs of a standard family.
- Did you know the State of New Mexico and the Federal Government will help with the cost of a new solar system for your home or business?
How? Tax Credits!
The New Mexico Solar Tax Credit works with the federal solar tax credit to pay up to 30% of your solar photovoltaic or solar thermal system. You can receive up to $2,000 in a federal tax credit and up to $9,000 in a state tax credit for your solar system. If you install both a photovoltaic and a thermal solar system, you can receive up to $11,000 in state tax credits.
